What are Physical Items

Physical collectibles such as Bluray discs / DVD discs / CDs / figurines / toys / books / comics / magazines / photo albums are collectively referred to as physical items within PLM.

Supported Physical Item Types

Theoretically, PLM supports all physical item collections. The principle is to set specific "Structure type" and "Content type", then provide picture/video files and description to record its information.

How to maintain Physical Items in PLM

Users can maintain physical items, similar to movies:

  1. Select a library directory (you can also create a dedicated physical collection directory, which must also correspond to a folder in the operating system because it needs to store photos and video files of these physical items).
  2. Click the "Add" button in the right-side list.
  3. In the "New file properties" window, set the "Structure Type" to "3: Playable Disc" or something like "15: Book", and optionally fill in the "Content type".
  4. Enter other information such as file name / title / barcode / storage location / condition / actors / director / description, etc.
  5. On the "Media" page, select its cover file / sample file, etc.
  6. If necessary, click "Edit File" to add other files such as other pictures / video clips.
  7. You can add custom log entries on the "Custom" page, such as "rental records". The "Reminder" field is currently not implemented but will be used to remind the user to perform a certain custom action at a certain time (e.g., "Check" / "Return").
  8. Click "OK" to save.

How to Add Photos/Videos Related to Physical Items

Take photos/videos yourself or obtain them from other sources and store them in a folder on your computer. Then edit the file, specify the cover / preview / sample / add child files and select the relevant photos/videos in this folder. After clicking "OK", PLM will try to import these files into the relevant library directory.
